East European Council > News > The annual Berlin Security Conference was held in Berlin on November 29-30 with the support of Germany, the Netherlands, and NATO.
The East European Council was presented at the event. Main trends are the following:
- There are active narratives that Russian Federation is trying to occupy bigger parts of Ukrainian territories. Similar statements are heard from many speakers. An important implication is that Russia does not plan to stop and this should be taken into account.
- There is an understanding among the participants that NATO faces enormous challenges. However, the first impression is that there are certain fears and indecision regarding potential active actions
- Most representatives of Old Europe do not know how to respond to these challenges. Although everyone is convinced that it is necessary to increase the production of weapons in order to deter the Russian invading forces, there are questions about whether there will be enough resources
- Everyone says that Ukraine should be part of the EU and NATO, but terms seemed to be out of discussion frames
- An important point is that most countries call on Germany to provide long-range missiles Taurus, but Minister of defense Pistorius tried to keep distance from that discussion and during his speech even ignored it.
- Ukraine is in the center of all discussions on the first place. That would be fair to say that participants didn`t pay so much attention to the conflict between Israel and HAMAS. Russian war against Ukraine is still the most important challenge and topic in European informational space
