The split in PiS and its political consequences

Political life on the right-wing of Polish politics has significantly intensified. The reason for this is the conflict within PiS, which went beyond internal disagreements and led to a split.

The unchanging leader of PiS, Jarosław Kaczyński, decided to demonstrate a tough approach to the initiative of former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki to create the “Development Plus” group.

Despite Mateusz Morawiecki’s calls not to escalate, Jarosław Kaczyński chose a radical scenario and did not believe the arguments presented regarding the lack of intentions to transform “Development Plus” into an independent political project or an autonomous influence group within PiS.

It is worth noting that Mateusz Morawiecki’s project is quite large-scale and includes up to 40 representatives of parliament. In the event of their final expulsion from the party, the politician’s team has the opportunity to form a political faction, and then participate in the elections as an independent political force.

It is too early to talk about such a scenario, since Mateusz Morawiecki will need proper financing and the construction of an effective party infrastructure in the region.

However, we can already say that “Development Plus” can claim to enter parliament with an indicator of more than 5%. Such a situation will change the political configurations on the eve of the elections.
